ImpacTS — Two Sigma’s internal volunteer initiative — launched a multi-year partnership with FIRST NYC Robotics to help inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by exploring the innovation process and building STEM and digital-literacy skills.
The FIRST Robotics New York Regionals were held at the Armory Track & Field center in New York City on April 5th – 8th. Each team participates in 12 video-game themed matches over the two days, working in alliance with two other teams for each match, all battling it out for a place in the finals, and a shot at getting to the National Championships. Two Sigma employees worked the Robo Sharks, the team from Brooklyn Collaborative, providing mentoring for software development, engineering and robot construction leading up to the competition. While the BCS Robo Sharks did not make it to the championships, finishing 28 / 50, the Two Sigma mentors enjoyed spending considerable time with the students working through challenges and seeing their creation come to life. We’re looking forward to continuing to partner with FIRST Robotics.
